Poor Paris... Love was your Achilles for Soprano Cornet and Piano Accompaniment
Poor Paris… Love was your Achilles was commissioned by the Flowers Band for the 2022 Brass in Concert Championships held at the Sage in Gateshead. It was written for the Soprano Cornet legend Paul Richards. The work is inspired by the tragic love story of Paris and Helen of Troy during the Trojan War. The work opens with a mournful and sombre tone, reflecting the sadness of Paris’ destiny to fall in love with the queen of Sparta. The melody becomes more optimistic, reflecting the blossoming romance between Paris and Helen. However, the music returns taking a sombre turn, reflecting the awkwardness of the situation, representing the beginning of the Trojan War and Paris’ tragic downfall.
This version has reduced the brass band version to piano accompaniment.
